Bitcube Joins BASDA, the Voice of UK Business Software

BASDA — The Voice of UK Business Software

We've joined BASDA — the Business Application Software Developers Association, the representative body for the UK-based business software industry, and, in its own words, "the voice of UK business software." For a UK-led software company like ours, it's a natural home.

Membership isn't a badge for its own sake. It connects us to the part of the industry that works directly with HM Government and its agencies on the policy and technical standards that shape the software our clients depend on.

Who BASDA is

BASDA represents software developers across the UK and gives the industry a collective voice in its dialogue with government. Much of that work is practical rather than ceremonial: the association developed the API strategy that underpinned Making Tax Digital (MTD), and it currently engages with HMRC and the Department for Business and Trade on initiatives such as e-invoicing and the wider HMRC transformation programme.

Day to day, the work happens in Specialist Interest Groups — Accountants in Practice, Payroll, Pensions & HR, Construction, Ability, and a recently launched e-invoicing group — where members and government representatives work through the detail of policy changes before they land on customers.

The codes and charters

BASDA maintains a set of voluntary codes and charters that set out good practice for business software vendors. They map closely to standards we already hold ourselves to:

  • The BASDA Charter — best-practice engagement between the software industry and HM Government.
  • Code of Practice — good principles of business practice: considered product development, rigorous testing and QA, clear documentation, proper support, and a defined dispute-resolution process.
  • Software Security Code of Practice — data-protection compliance, access controls, audit trails, and data recovery — the same territory our ISO 27001 certification covers.
  • Cloud Vendor Charter — minimum best practices for security, reliability, and customer lifecycle management for cloud software.
  • Green Charter — a commitment to reducing the carbon impact of software and the organisations that build it.

Why we joined

We build bespoke software for mid-market and enterprise clients, much of it in the UK and Europe, and a good deal of it touching regulated areas like tax, payroll, and finance. Being close to the people shaping how that regulation is implemented in software helps us build for what's coming, not just what's shipped.

It also fits how we already work. We're ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certified, and BASDA's codes on security, quality, and responsible practice reflect commitments we've made independently. Membership adds an industry-wide framework — and a community of peers — around those commitments.

BASDA's 2026 Annual Summit, "Beyond AI Hype: Innovation and Transformation in Business Software," is a theme close to our own work on AI-accelerated delivery — practical outcomes over buzzwords. It's a conversation we're glad to be part of.
